We'll see you on Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Here’s our final update on this winter’s 2010 Indy Pub Crawl!

First and foremost, to our hosts, thanks for having us!!  We really appreciate the time and consideration shown to us by the many establishments in downtown Indy and its surrounding areas.  As an fyi, folks enjoy the crawl and the stops we hit so much, they’re now coming from as far away (and in large groups) as Chicago, Ohio and Michigan!  We’ve even had folks fly in from California and England just to attend the crawls!  So, thanks for helping make it a great event in a great city!!

For our crawlers, the list of stops and specials that will be offered at each is listed below.  This year, we will be “flowing” the crawl; in order to make sure we are all comfortably accommodated at the various stops, if you want to leave early or stay later at a spot, feel free.  Our hosts know our arrival and departure times will vary somewhat this year to help accomplish a smooth crawl for them and for us!

We are asking for a $5 donation this year.  No formal transportation will be offered, however this amount will help cover the “bling” costs, some administrative costs, with the remainder going to Gabe Jordan, a young Indy man who was shot while out walking his dog this last year.

This year’s winter crawl has an “International/Around the World” theme.   We’re assigning countries or cities to each stops.  In addition, each crawler will get a country name tag when checking in, and the challenge will be to find other crawlers whose country is adjacent to yours.  For example, the US needs to find Mexico and Canada.   Should make for a fun way to meet some old and new attendees!

Our weather forecast for Saturday now looks to be partly sunny and 28 degrees!   Sounds like perfect winter crawl weather!!

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!   Please remember … the Indy Pub Crawl is designed to entertain a group of serious-minded individuals dedicated to spreading the word, fun and adventure of pub crawling in downtown Indy!  Obviously, you must be 21 years of age or older to participate, and our number one rule is DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!!   We strongly encourage the use of designated drivers, taking a taxi cab home or getting a room at one of our great downtown hotels for the night!  It’s about having FUN, BUT BE SAFE!   Also, remember to be a good guest at our various stops, tip well, and we suggest you bring cash; it helps speed along the paying process at the various stops.   Thanks, and we will see you Saturday!!

EIGHT SIMPLE RULES FOR PUB CRAWLING

  1. One bar, one beer.  More than just a motto, its very good common sense.  A lot of the places we stop will have the “larger than your average Beer” 12 oz. suds flowing, and/or the mixed drinks will be a little “stiffer” than usual.  It’s tempting to kick back a couple, but remember, you’re already looking at the equivalent of half a case over the route.  So if you plan on making the whole crawl, STICK TO THE PLAN.
  2. Eat, Santa, Eat!  A good base in the bread basket will help dilute the alcohol and slow the absorption process, as well as slowing the alcohol intake.
  3. Spiked heels look really hot, but they are NOT what you want to wear when hoofing it to 12-14 bars.  Wear sensible shoes.  This advice applies to women as well.
  4. Tip Well.  Then when we go back in six months and ask if we can use them as a stop, they fawn all over us.
  5. DON’T BE A JERK.  While getting kicked out of a swanky bar en masse makes for good story telling, it does nothing for a pub crawl in terms of long term.  We want to leave a good impression so when we ask about coming back, they JUMP at the opportunity.  Be sure to thank the staff for having us.
  6. Bring cameras!  Oddly enough, many people have a hard time remembering just how much they enjoyed a pub crawl.  Pictures allow you to relive the experience, and are also good as hard, physical evidence.
  7. Cash works better.  Yes, this is the age of plastic, but on a crawl speed is of the essence, and it’s easier for the bartenders.
  8. DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.  This should be tattooed on most people’s foreheads and should go without saying.  But just as a reminder.  Statistics show that an inebriated driver gets pulled over about once for every 115 times they’ve done it.  Noting the age and habits of some of our crawlers, a LOT of folks are overdue.  Get a room, call a cab, shack up with friends and loved ones, camp out under an overpass and share some Night Train with your new buddies, but DON’T drive drunk.
